    How It Works

The Crash Query Tool supports a practical workflow from search to summary, analysis, and results review.

    Select a Query Method

Start with a basic query, draw or select a search area, or search by point depending on the safety question.

    Review on the Map

Inspect matching crashes using the query view, dashboard view, cluster toggle, heat map toggle, and VRU layer option.

    Summarize Patterns

Open summary views to compare crash records by factors such as year, route, parish, hour, collision type, and work zone status.

    Run Project Analysis

Create or open a project, run eligible roadway or intersection analysis tools, and review saved analysis results.

      Integrated Tools

      • Basic Query Search crash records using standard filters and review the matching results in the main query workspace.
      • Spatial Query Search by defined area or by point to focus analysis on a corridor, intersection, neighborhood, or other location of interest.
      • Dashboard View Use dashboards to review aggregate crash information and support high-level safety monitoring.
      • Pattern Recognition Tools Run roadway segment analysis or intersection analysis when a project and search context are available.
      • Countermeasure Evaluation Review countermeasure workflows for roadway and intersection safety analysis when user permissions allow access.

      Features & Capabilities

      Basic Crash Search

Run general crash queries from the main query workspace.

      Search by Area

Use spatial search areas to isolate crashes in a defined geography.

      Search by Point

Focus investigation around a selected point, including intersections or other mapped locations.

      Crash Clustering

Toggle clustered crash symbols for easier map interpretation at broader zoom levels.

      Heat Map Display

Use heat map visualization to identify concentrations of crashes across a selected area.

      VRU Layer

Display vulnerable road user information as part of map-based review.

      Summary Categories

Review built-in summaries for alcohol, pedestrian, parish, route, year, hour, collision type, and other safety factors.

      Analysis Results

View saved roadway, intersection, and countermeasure analysis results from the Results section.

      • Authorized Use: Crash data access, downloads, project creation, and analysis functions may depend on user role and permissions. Contact CARTS support for access questions, training needs, or account assistance.
